THE CLIMBING STORE: GET THE RIGHT CLIMBING GEAR TO MAKE YOUR SUMMIT

We sell equipment for bouldering, sport climbing, rock climbing, mountaineering, via ferrata… the best equipment so you can climb safely and really enjoy yourself!

Climbing equipment is different for every aspect of the sport and can be very specialized.

Boulderers will have relatively little equipment  with just a pair of climbing shoes, crash pad, a chalk bag.

Sports climbers need climbing ropes, abelay device, quickdraws, carabiners, a climbing helmet and if venturing out on traditional, non equiped routes, they need cams and nuts.

Alpinists really need the best material which depending on the route or expedition can include backpacks, crampons, ice tools, bivouac equipment.

Whatever your climbing needs, whether it is to go and have fun at the local climbing wall or a challenging expedition you will find the appropriate climbing gear for every level and every budget in the Fast and Light climbing shop, with brands such as Fixe Climbing, Snap and Grivel.

WHAT EQUIPMENT FOR BOULDERING

Many see bouldering as the most original, purest form of climbing even though it was originally reagrded as a training discipline. Today, bouldering has established itself as a completely independent sport.
The essesntial piece of kit for bouldering are the rock climbing shoes. They should fit perfectly and give the user a good feel for the rock. The next piece of essesntial gear for bouldering is the crash pad, a foam mat used to absorb any impact with the ground when jumping off or in case of a fall. They are available in different sizes, thicknesses and designs.

WHAT EQUIPMENT FOR SPORT CLIMBING

Sport climbers need a climbing rope, quickdraws, carabiners, a belay device and a climbing helmet.

Sport climbers tend to use single ropes as they are easy to handle and can be clipped in quickly. Diffent lengths are available depending on the routes climbed.
Quickdraws are used on sports climbs to clip bolts,  locking carabiners with a screw or automatic gate are used for bealying and belays. Belay devices can be tube or semi-automatic, depending on personal choice and experience.
Helmets protect against impact from a fall and falling stones, which can even occur at busy climbing areas.

TRAD CLIMBING EQUIPEMENT

Where routes are not equipped with bolts the type of climbing is referred to as trad climbing which requires equipemt that is placed into clrack in the rock to secure the climber in case of a fall such as nuts and cams (also known as “friends”).  Trad climbers are also likely to use more sligs and webbings, and similar techniques are used in mountianeering.

WHAT EQUIPMENT FOR ICE CLIMBING AND MOUNTAINEERING

Ice climbing, mountaineer and expeditions require a lot more specialist equipment, and also the right gear for different weather conditions.
As well as ropes, belay devices, carabiners, helmet, etc. mountaineers and ice climbers also need mountain boots, ice tools, ice screws, crampons and winter clothing. And if over night bivouacs or expeditions, then the climber needs to add sleeping bags, cooking stoves, and bigger backpacks to their kit list.

Whatever the equipment we aim to help you find what you need in our online climbing shop at Fast and Light.
