Trail specific shoes are running shoes designed for running off road, whether that is through parks, forests, on bridleways, beaches, grassy field or on alpine paths tracks or steep mountain terrain. You can run almost anywhere with a trail shoe, but they aren’t so good at sustained road running as often they have rubber compounds that will wear out quickly on tarmac and have harder cushioning. Trail shoes have varying styles and types of sole depending on the surface, with bigger and deeper studs for soft and muddier terrain, and special stickier compounds for running over rockier terrain.
