Before we started to base our daily meal on 100% fruits and vegetables, we were the regular eaters of animal flesh, either meat or fish. My background is pretty carnivore as some members of my family include the meat in every daily meal.
So it was not easy first to convince ourselves especially as Arthur Schopenhauer once said:

“…All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident….”

We watched different documentaries on this subject from Cowspiracy through What the Health produced by Eunice Wong, in collaboration with Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn, read couple of books including this written by Dr. Michael Greger “How not to die”.

Through which we first discover that the large pollution issue of our Dear Planet Earth is directly linked to the massive livestock farming, what a shock!
Secondly that we can reverse almost every illness by adapting the 100% plant-based diet!
Thirdly, once you are adopting this diet you can increase your performance as an athlete!

So in the middle of last summer we said why not let’s try, after all let’s just use our common sense and start to replace every animal product by 100% plant-based ingredients, and you know what, it was not that difficult at all.

To understand the reason why the 100% plant-based diet trend is spreading so much recently its enough to try to answer the simple question what is for us the definition of health? And reading the books and blogs written by physician and nutritionist Dr Michael Greger, we will reply the longevity.

And the only way to reach it, is by adapting a healthy style of life by being active everyday and by consuming 100% plant-based diet as it is more hydrating, anti-inflammatory and more alkalizing, so will help you to recover much quicker after an intensive training.

What the nutritionists mean by Alkaline foods, they correct excess acid in our body, and we know on other side that every illness occurs when the body is in an acidic state.
By every illness is meant: kidney stones, bone weakness, heart disease, diabetes, fatigue, overweight, sleep disorder, digestive problems, inflammation, arthiritis and even cancer.

While meat-and-dairy-base diets push body acid levels dangerously high, alkaline foods include: asaparagus, beets, broccoli, carrots, onion, zucchini, sweet potatoes, oranges, mangos, avocados, bananas, pineapple, almonds, wild rice and quinoa will reduce your acid level.
The Acid-forming foods includes dairy, chicken, beef, pork, shellfish and fish. They contribute to inflammation and pain by what the delay the recovery in a significant way.

The cow milk for instance is causing the inflammation in joints. You cannot be strong by eating wrong food, which is clogging your arteries and intestines. It takes 3 to 5 days to digest meat, while plants we digest 12-24h.

Some athletes like Timothy "Livewire" Shieff a professional English Freerunner, who won in 2009 Barclaycard World Freerun Championship, stating that being vegan made all his tendonitis gone away. His performance as an athlete did improve since as he could train for longer, and could recover much faster, he lost his body fat, but remain just as strong.

Another example is Scott Jurek the ultra-marathon runner, who as a vegan broke the record in 2015, for the fastest thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, he did it in 46 days, 8 hours and 7 minutes with average 50 miles/80 km a day.

Brendan Brazier known as a professional ironman triathlete discovered that on a plant-based diet, above improving your strength, energy and speed is refining the sharpness of your mental acuity.
Known vegan ultra-distance athlete and high-profile wellness advocate Rich Roll, speaks about his and whole his family healthy style of life through the book: “The Plantpower Way”, also very inspiring.

Looks like the 100% plant-based ever day diet is an easy reply not only to our health problem but as well to our planet sustainability issue, so why don’t give a trial, as it costs nothing just our good will, and it can decrease at the end of the month our expenditure on food.
Enjoy …..
